Paris Space Week 2026: Key Insights and Success for Baden-Württemberg

In March 2026, Evelyn Schaible, our project Manager at the Green Space Center Baden-Württemberg attended Paris Space Week, bringing together leading stakeholders from the international space community.

The event highlighted several key topics shaping the sector, including international collaboration through organizations such as ESA, the upcoming Artemis mission, and the growing challenge of space debris. Discussions emphasized the need for stronger cooperation and sustainable solutions as space activities continue to expand.

A particular highlight for Baden-Württemberg's space ecosystem was the success of our member company ISPTech, which won first place in the Hardware/Digital category of the Paris Space Week Innovation Challenge. "We were especially proud to see ISPTech recognized with a first-place award, showcasing the innovation and expertise within Baden-Württemberg's space ecosystem. Paris Space Week demonstrated the importance of innovation, collaboration, and sustainability in shaping the future of the global space industry.", Evelyn commented.

GSC Webinar: "Space Sustainability: Environmental implications of satellite re-entry"

The space sector is entering a new era; the so-called New Space age. Besides high launch numbers and rapid commercialisation this era is marked by the increasing issue of space debris orbiting Earth. The most prominent solution to avoid further input of unwanted artificial objects into Earth’s orbit is to dispose of satellites via atmospheric re-entry at their end-of-life. In order to mitigate ground casulties and damage to human infrastructure, current Space Safety efforts ensure structural disintegration during these re-entries via the design for demise (D4D) approach.

However, the environmental impact of destructive re-entries, especially the consequent material emissions into high atmospheric layers is not yet sufficiently understood. First research has already proven possible damage to the ozone layer and ecosystems, as well as negative implications for climate change, human toxicity, and other areas.

In our webinar Dennis Michael Jöckel gave a broad introduction to the topics of space debris and space sustainability and reported on his research of simulating atmospheric re-entries to characterise high-altitude emissions.

If you missed the webinar, but want to get some information, let us know and get in contact.
